I have wanted to be a therapist since I was a young child. My career started in accounting – yes, accounting – but after some time as a CPA for a public accounting firm, I realized I was in the wrong place. Flash forward approximately ten years, I am now able to pursue my life’s purpose of helping people. My life journey and family system has definitely helped bring me to this point, but many of my clients talk about how they appreciate the nonjudgmental support I provide. I believe that this is one of the things that sometimes sets me apart from other providers. I find great joy in helping clients gain insight and develop the skills and confidence to use their innate strengths to create a more fulfilling life.
My areas of interest and expertise include working with people who experience anxiety, depression, family of origin issues, attachment and parenting challenges, maternal mental health, communication difficulties, and relationship issues. I enjoy working with adult individuals (age 19+) and couples.

Dr. Wood is straightforward and conversational in her approach, often using humor in her work. She is particularly skilled at helping people envision clear futures for themselves and cut through the clutter to find the best route to peace of mind. Teaching people how to grow their own self-esteem and treat themselves as if they matter is one of the best parts of my job.
And though it doesn’t sound very clinical, I often help people get in touch with their own unique place in the Universe and guide them to make use of healthy spiritual practices to help them through the traumas and tragedies of life.

As a trauma specialist, I work from a trauma-informed, postmodern philosophy. I incorporate emerging concepts from neuroscience, attachment theory, mindfulness, and somatic methods, including EMDR, to promote full mind/body recovery. Many clients report that they experience enduring “stuckness.” Stuckness has many faces and may include persistent depression and anxiety, extreme emotional dysregulation (mood swings), crisis and trauma, difficult life transitions, issues of aging, and relationship concerns. Together, we will specifically address the complexities that manifest as a result of particularly difficult experiences (past or present) or the effects of everyday stress. Additionally, I work with those who are struggling with, or recovering from, various forms of self-destruction or self-harm (such as addiction and substance abuse, impulsivity, eating and body image disorders, isolation, cutting, etc.).

I understand that our need for secure connection is wired in us and when we can’t feel connected in our most important relationships, it causes great distress. If it seems you are arguing over petty things, or feel distant and withdrawn, if your sexual connection isn’t what it used to be or you are feeling like roommates, we can help create the safety needed to explore the underlying issues at the core so you can experience a loving, secure bond with one another.

My name Is Denise Davis and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I have 15 years of counseling experience. I have always known that I wanted to be a therapist because I love to help people reach their goals, and beyond! My role as your therapist is to help you find your way and to stand beside you through your journey. Whether you are dealing with depression, anxiety, abuse or any other problem, there can be a happy ending to your story. Or as I like to say, a new beginning of great things to come your way!
Throughout my years of experience, I have used several types of therapy approaches but the 2 that I like the best are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). When it is all said and done it might appear more eclectic where I may bring in other approaches depending on the situation, but CBT and DBT tend to work with most situations and I have seen the most success with these therapeutic styles.
My specialties include women’s issues, mood disorders, relationship issues and substance abuse. Most of my experience has been with adults, which is the area I feel most comfortable and that I can do my best work.
As a clinical psychologist, I provide psychotherapy and consultation services to men and women, adolescents and adults. I am also a Registered Yoga Teacher with specialized training and certification in yoga integrated psychotherapy for people with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and/or trauma. I completed my predoctoral, postdoctoral, and advanced postdoctoral fellowships at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT.
Since 1999, I have been in private practice in Canton, MA. I have taught psychology courses at several colleges; presented at professional conferences on the topics of eating disorders, body image, and sexuality; and published in professional journals. I have been the featured guest on radio and television programs as well as on a variety of blogs. I am referenced in a documentary about the dieting industry and published a chapter in a college text book on the psychological effects of women’s pursuit of beauty. I have been a sought after speaker on a variety of topics.
My faith in the therapeutic process is founded in the belief that we each have the ability to access more of what can provide comfort and clarity in our lives. Intention, curiosity and a devotion to a greater happiness are the basic tools needed to kindle profound change. Experiencing “stuck-ness,” repetitive negative patterns, self-doubt, loss and fear can make common obstacles seem insurmountable, and cloud the path to our hopes for the future. With a non-judgmental and alert presence, the vague often becomes lucid, and confusion can give way to acceptance and understanding—with ourselves and towards others.
My interest is in simplicity of being, and in cultivating what we do that is of service, while looking with a spirit of inquiry at whatʼs not working. What is the relationship of form to function in our lives, and how can we manifest a more purposeful design? It is my most sincere hope that I can aid in supporting a natural awareness that is the key to living a fulfilled expression of our own authenticity, integrity and joy.
I specialize in life transitions, relationships, loss, identity, sexuality, creativity, fear, anxiety, spirituality and existential isolation. My work is with couples and individuals, with the collaborative goal of helping you find more effective ways to be happy, and tapping your existing resources to weather the ever-shifting currents of life.

I offer counseling services for individuals, couples and families. I am client centered in my approach. Every person and every situation is different. I value people’s experiences and strengths. I like to build on what is working and evaluate what is not working. I often develop ways of coping with problems that worked for us in the past, except those ways of coping are no longer working in the present and something needs to shift or change.
Therapy offers a safe place to express one’s fears and worries. Change is not easy and it can be stressful if we do not have the tools to manage the emotional turmoil it can bring. Even the most subtle change can bring about a significant result. Therapy offers a safe place to process feelings and explore ways to challenge ourselves and grow.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a director of Programs for people with disabilities and underserved populations where I encouraged young people to realize their strengths while living with a disability, living below poverty level, and coming from refugee and immigrant families.

Few of us got good solid training on how to process our thoughts and emotions, and effectively function in relationships. It’s no wonder we end up frustrated and sometimes miserable.

I am a holistic psychotherapist with 15 years experience working with individuals. I tend to think outside the box and use a gentle engaged, interactive, collaborative, and creative approach. I work with people to better understand their relationships. Not only in relationship with partners and family members, but also their relationship to their own body, thoughts, stress, and Self. I aim to help you feel more confident and comfortable in your own skin. Through integrating the mind and body, I help you feel more authentic, engaged in and content with life, fully embodied in daily activities, sexually satisfied and empowered.
In addition to being a psychotherapist, I am also a certified sex therapist. Sex therapy sessions are similar to those conducted with other counselors – sex therapy is talk therapy. As a sex therapist, I bring extensive training beyond the basic psychotherapy to address the highly personal psychological, physical and emotional issues around sexual concerns. My specialized training makes it possible to view things holistically and evaluate a multitude of concerns, along with medical, emotional, cultural, and lifestyle factors to guide you to better sexual health and satisfaction.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with training and over 12 years of experience in Cognitive-Behavioral, Client-Centered, and Solution-Focused Therapy. My therapy is built on a cornerstone of a warm and supportive approach with each individual, family, or couple and the specific challenge being faced.
My goal is to help each of my clients feel confident and strong in their emotional health. Those who can achieve and maintain emotional health are better able to reach goals, learn their true potential, and live a balanced and fulfilling life. Even those who are emotionally healthy experience challenges in life – those sudden, unexpected events that seem to throw life off course. Whether it is a traumatic experience, a loss of a loved one, a stressful situation, a life transition, or something else, my extensive experience can help you through the challenge being faced and leave you feeling more content and confident.
I provide services for couples issues, intimacy, depression/anxiety, grief, sexual issues, infidelity, parenting, abuse/trauma, and stress management.
My approach to couples and individual therapy employs a “differentiation” model. I also incorporate Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and mindfulness-awareness methods to treat trauma and developmental wounds. I am currently serving as a private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients.

As a licensed marriage and family therapy for many years, I have specialized in working with clients who have a borderline or narcissistic parent or spouse. I have also been a long-time Adjunct Faculty member with Regis University in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and at California State University in Sacramento, California, as well as the former Director and Intern Supervisor for Threshold Educational and Counseling Services.
I have worked for many years with clients who grew up with a mentally ill parent and those who take on a caretaking role with a borderline or narcissistic family member. I now do phone consultations with callers from all over the country who have questions about a current or former relationship with someone who has BPD or NPD.
I love what I do. I feel privileged to help people become happier and healthier in a short period of time. But it was a journey to get to this place of efficacy in my practice. In 1994, I graduated from a traditional program and received a Master’s in Counseling Psychology at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. I trained in systems family therapy, group, couples and individual therapy. I went to work and discovered that classical talk therapy is a slow process that can provide some relief, but it also can exacerbate symptoms by fueling old neural pathways and habit patterns. This was not the kind of work I wanted to do.
In 2005, I began studying meditation and mindfulness attending 10-day and 30-day meditation retreats annually. I developed a dedicated, daily meditation practice and now teach for Mindfulness Meditation Centers. I longed to bring these skills to my counseling as I personally understood the effectiveness of this training. In 2013, I completed training with the Institute for Advanced Study- Mindfulness Rational Living which successfully merged my passion with my work.
My orientation is cognitive and behavioral (CBT). I’m a caring compassionate listener and also actively engage with clients to elicit thoughts, feelings, and strategies for healing. My specialties include eating disorders, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, couples, family issues, parenting, teens, and children nine and older. My therapy approach is directive and problem-solving while encouraging self-acceptance and compassion. I believe that everyone is capable of change at his or her own rate and comfort level. I help my clients eliminate self-critical thinking that too often sabotages their happiness and their relationships.
I enjoy actively helping people explore issues, understand their deeper emotions, and find ways to improve their relationships and their lives. We work together in ways that often produce more light-heartedness as we build awareness, confidence and self-acceptance.
I am a relationship counsellor and former family lawyer based in Melbourne who specialises in helping couples and individuals with all aspects of conflict and relationship wellbeing.

By identifying the stuck places in patterns of intimate relationships they can more easily move towards greater closeness and connection.
I hold an ongoing professional interest in the latest developments in neuroscience and links to mindfulness techniques, in which I have practiced for over 15 years.

I especially enjoy offering one and two day workshops and trainings for couples both before and during marriage. I am an experienced Supervisor and Teacher, leading other therapists to further develop their skills working with individuals and couples.
I provide counseling and therapy services for individuals and families. I have gained valuable experience providing support and guidance for students, adults, and families on various personal, academic, and professional issues.
Not taking advantage of all of the blessings I continue o receive, I have been given additional opportunities to utilize my experience and skills to assist other counselors, social workers, and human relations professionals with increasing his/her knowledge base and experience.
I offer integrative therapy for Couples, Individuals, and Groups. Couples therapy helps build communication skills, understanding, and guideposts to move forward and build a better relationship or marriage. The Relationship skills group is for men and women who need a safe environment to practice new relationship skills.
This group can help you 1. Cultivate emotional intimacy 2. Become more comfortable in your own skin 3. Be authentic in relationship 4. Become aware of your own feelings and ways of relating 5. Change patterns that don’t work Therapy addresses anxiety and trauma, depression, codependency, relationships, intimacy, and overcoming obstacles to building the life you want.
I welcome clients who are ready to step out of the self- limiting beliefs, perceptions, and patterns that are causing them to feel and be “less” than who they truly are! The models of therapy that I work with are collaborative, compassionate and client- centered in addressing all aspects of you. It is possible to feel centered, heal your relationships, and understand your true purpose.
True change happens from the inside, out. My intention is to enable each person, with whom I work, to create lasting positive change within themselves. As we change from within, the world around us changes. I look forward to joining you on the next part of your journey.

I later obtained an education in counseling, where I focused on relationships and couples. I facilitated support groups for new mothers, new parents, and worked with children and incarcerated women. My work with a diverse population and in different cultures taught me to accept people without judgment.
Over the past 12 years, my practice has focused on helping individuals and couples repair their relationships. I have attended advanced classes and learned proven and perfected tools and techniques. I will provide you with the knowledge and expertise to help you reconnect and manage fights, so that you will continue to share a meaningful future.
